<p>At least, it&#8217;s supposed to be a dying platform. DICE put up a poll on BLOG for players to vote on what platform they&#8217;ll be playing BF4 on. To no-one&#8217;s surprise the PC is currently the resounding leader. In fact 72% of people said they&#8217;d be playing BF4 on the PC, with the second place going to the PS4 with 10%.</p>
<p>Perhaps we&#8217;ll actually see the PC as the lead platform this time?</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s the results of the poll as of the time of writing, after 112422 votes:</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If you&#8217;ve ever been into been into the MechWarrior scene, it&#8217;s highly probable you&#8217;ve heard of <a href="http://www.mektek.net" target="_blank">MekTek</a>. They&#8217;re the ones who took MechWarrior 4, tore it apart and built tools to add additional mechs and other goodies to the original game. Their mekpaks extended the life of MW4 by several years, and indeed they ended up being allowed by Microsoft to release the original MW4 game free of charge. They even provided master servers when MS turned theirs off.</p>
<p>If you were into the MW scene, it&#8217;s also possible you&#8217;ve heard of Heavy Gear. Like BattleTech, this was a mech-centric universe which had its roots in a tabletop game. Two PC games were released, around the time of MW3/4, although they were not very successful. I can actually remember playing the Heavy Gear 2 demo <img src='http://phyrefli.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />  In fact I think I&#8217;ve still got the game disc around somewhere&#8230;.</p>
<p>MekTek have teamed up with Dream Pod 9, the creators of the Heavy Gear universe, and have launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise an additional $800,000 to fund a new Heavy Gear game built using the Unreal 4 engine. This is a huge amount, but unlike many other companies which run KS campaigns, MekTek have a long, successful history of producing quality mods, content and original games. <p>UWE (the developers of Natural Selection 2, amongst other things) just sent out a tweet with details of their YouTube and Twitch monetisation policy. In short, unless you&#8217;re an a-hole, you can monetise them with full permission from UWE. This is markedly different to some other companies who forbid users from monetising content OR take the revenue for themselves. This isn&#8217;t only large companies either&#8230;.over the weekend I played on an ARMA 3 server with the Domination 2 mod on it &#8211; and right at the start a message flashed up, &#8220;No monetising YouTube videos, and no live streaming.&#8221;</p>

<p>Arma 3 CPU Optimization</p>
<p>1. Go to Steam Library<br />
2. Go to &#8220;Arma 3&#8243; Right Click then select &#8220;Properties&#8221;<br />
3. Select &#8220;Set Launch Options&#8221;<br />
4. Copy and paste the correct launch command line below to what your system is setup for and click &#8220;OK&#8221;.</p>
<p>For AMD CPU users:<br />
AMD Dual Core with 4GB System Ram:<br />
&#8220;-noSplash -cpuCount=2 -high&#8221;<br />
AMD Quad Core with 4GB Ram:<br />
&#8220;-noSplash -cpuCount=4 -high&#8221;<br />
AMD Six Core with 4GB Ram:<br />
&#8220;-noSplash -cpuCount=6 -high&#8221;<br />
AMD Eight Core with 4GB Ram:<br />

If your running more than 8GB Ram then apply this to the end of the launch line:<br />

This will allow your game to utilize 8GB system Ram instead of 4GB.<br />

Intel CPU:<br />
For Hyperthreaded CPU&#8217;s such as a Quad Core you will apply this:<br />
-cpuCount=8<br />
This will enable your Hyperthreads on your CPU so your CPU will act as an eight core when running Arma 3.<br />
If you are running a Hyperthreaded Six Core then:<br />
-cpuCount=12<br />
If you are running a Hyperthreaded Eight Core or Eight Core Xeon then apply this:<br />
-cpuCount=16<br />
If you are running just a non Hyperthreaded CPU such as a Quad Core then select &#8220;4&#8243; instead of &#8220;8&#8243; same for a Dual Core you will select &#8220;2&#8243; instead of &#8220;4&#8243;.<br />
All AMD CPU&#8217;s are NOT Hyperthreaded so Hyperthreaded options is highly not recommended as this can cause system failure or damage.<br />
I will not be responible for system failure and damage if you choose to select more cores then you have on your command line!</p>
<p>-high:<br />
makes your operating system prioritize services and processes to run your game better but this can cause system failure and instability if you dont have a good running system. If you Overclock this can cause system instability.<br />
-noSplash:<br />
disables startup videos and advertisements.<br />
-cpuCount=#:<br />
enables extra CPU cores and Hyperthreads.<br />
-maxMem=#:<br />
when set to &#8220;6144&#8243; (6GB) and up lets your game use more system Ram then 4GB.<br />
Do not set to higher than 4GB if you dont have at least 8GB. You can set to &#8220;8192&#8243; (8GB) if you have 12GB+ Ram.</p>

set to 5 if dual core<br />
set to 7 if quadcore or greater</p>
<p>it lets the game run additional rendering threads to help compliment the cpuCount parameter</p>
<p>oh, and you can set a custom memory allocator. it had a decent impact on frames in Arma 2, but i haven&#8217;t tested it much in Arma 3.<br />
-malloc=tbb4malloc_bi</p>
<p>not sure if BI released any newer allocators, but so far TBB4 has been their best performing for both Intel and AMD processors.</p>

For those of you who play, the Misery is a custom Stalker mech. This is one of the first games I tried it in (it even has some teamplay <img src='http://phyrefli.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' /> ). Video is 1920*1200 with all settings maxed out.</p>
