This edition of the digest explores the issue of mod tools, and their lack in BF3. It also explores why Dice’s decision was fundamentally flawed. If you enjoy this, please visit my site on: http://www.phyrefli.com

[..YouTube..] People (not as many anyway) wouldn’t buy DLC if they could download new content for free.
I don’t think there’s any good reason for them not making dlc and releasing mod tools, unless they’re so under-confident in their own work that they consider the amateur community developers competition.
Demize did in a DRMB podcastit wasn’t official, but it’s out there
content which is not available in the base gameI’d play mods but I would still buy content for the vanilla game
That’s most likely what EA (and/or maybe DICE) doesn’t want, long living games. They are looking to rush out the next BF game asap.In case you didn’t hear it, there are rumours about the next Bad Company already. Or even a BF2143.

[..YouTube..] If it wasn’t for a MOD called “Desert Combat” BF2 wouldn’t have been as big as it was. People bought BF1942 just for that MOD. MODs are great for the community and the game/game engine developer, they extend the life and sales of the game. After seeing the Casus Belli MOD, I’m thinking of buying Crysis.
[..YouTube..] phyrefli…… EA WHOLEY owns DICE. Crytek is a independent Dev team that it slowly getting up to Epic games level with their engine. EA is the BLOODY problem. Crytek is to blame for Crysis 2 for not being the best that it could be but BF3 I rest 40% of the major problem of the game and the rushed release on EA’s feet for wanting to compete with COD.

[..YouTube..] So valve….. allows everyone to mess with the source code of any of there games. Or the source engine. Guess what? We got Portal, CS and Gmod. All of them made money for valve but started as MODS. EA is rucking stupid to think is mods hurt the bottom line.
[..YouTube..] If that’s so, why can’t they just tell us?

[..YouTube..] Personally I still blame EA for everything. If you’ve played BF since 1942, you know that DICE is not happy with the way the game turned out. EA used BF3 to compete with MW3 last year, that’s why we see some similarity (smaller maps). Demize99 also said that their goal is to keep all versions of the game close to the same, meaning consoles versions. The only hope I have for BF3 is the second expansion, if not, hopefully BF4 will go back to it’s roots of BF2/2142.
[..YouTube..] Interesting points about frostbite 2 im just wondering if its something to do with the new medal of honor coming in october which says is using the frostbite 2 engine,i could be wrong though……. but just throwing it out there
[..YouTube..] Please stop with the “draging the screen with your hand and then clicking it”.. Looks really stupid..
[..YouTube..] Demize himself said in a podcast with DRMB that it was for the most part licensing issues. it may not have an official statement but it’s out there

[..YouTube..] Also great digest
[..YouTube..] If that was the reason for the decision, licensing issues, then they could have said something like: “look we’re sorry, but because of that and that technology used by the engine, we can’t give you the tools”. Instead they said “the community is too ‘stupid’ to use our complex technology”.Also if they were looking to earn money with content made by the community they could have implemented some sort of marketplace, where you could “sell” your own maps, mods, campaigns, etc.[DEFR] Badge
[..YouTube..] A good case would be Tripwire’s approach. Offering full mod tools to only a small selected group of modders.
[..YouTube..] unlike Crytek, who build every single part of their engine themselves
[..YouTube..] I don’t believe the excuse that Mod tools will not bring any profit to EA or DICE. I know people who specifically bought BF2 just to play Project Reality and other mods. Besides, Mod Tools don’t bring anything to the base game, so people will STILL buy developer made-dlc provided they are good enough(except community-made maps, some of which were added to BF2). I sincerely think that it’s a licensing issue, since a lot of parts of Frostbite were not developed in-house, like their physics engine.
[..YouTube..] kewl video
[..YouTube..] cheers mate, awesome !!!
